What We Do for Our
Community
Whether it is building little league fields in Colorado, sponsoring neighborhood parks in Argentina, or fostering a high school science program in Long Beach, we believe it is our responsibility to help improve the communities where our employees live and work.

Breakfast and Education: How the Open Doors Program strengthened knowledge in the community

As part of our community engagement initiative, Oxbow’s Copetro plant implemented the ‘Open Doors Program.’ The program involves a series of activities aimed at strengthening education in our local community.
The Copetro plant welcomes students from the surrounding technical high schools of Berriso and Enseñada. The students and teachers join our Copetro team for breakfast and a presentation on:
  • Oxbow’s global operations
  • Calcining and logistics processes
  • Environmental, safety and health policies and activities
  • Sustainability programs
Oxbow employees also share personal insights based on their own careers and experiences to provide guidance to the students regarding opportunities in the field. To end the day, students visit the calcining control room to observe in person how we operate and control our calcining process.

The Giving Field

Since 2014, Oxbow’s Port Arthur, Texas calcining facility has supported The Giving Field, a local volunteer-driven community garden. The Giving Field’s mission is to combat hunger by providing 100% of its harvest, consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables and eggs, to local soup kitchens. Oxbow’s donations have been used to cover the cost of chicken feed and scratch.

Fighting heart disease and stroke with the Palm Beach County Heart Walk

Every year, Oxbow employees join their family and friends to get active in their communities. In support of the American Heart Association, Oxbow employees fundraise for and participate in the Palm Beach County Heart Walk. Oxbow continues the support by matching all donations and taking part in the initiatives for this charity, making a crucial difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke.

Industrial Maintenance Training for Enseñada Students

Working with Argentina’s National Technological University, Oxbow’s Copetro plant in Enseñada, Argentina implemented an Industrial Maintenance Training program designed for local students in their last year of technical high school.
The 40-hour training curriculum addresses mechanical and electrical maintenance topics in industrial facilities, and emphasizes best practices in the university workshops.
The objective is to provide knowledge related to the maintenance of industrial facilities, which gives students the necessary tools for job opportunities. The initiative also allows students to have a university experience while still in high school thereby encouraging them to continue studying, learning and thinking about their future.

Oxbow partners with YMCA to make the holidays memorable

Oxbow's Woodlands, Texas office partners with the YMCA Holiday Angel Tree Program to help families in need by providing gifts, clothing, toys and basic essentials for individuals in the community during the holiday season. In addition to filling toy boxes with sporting equipment, learning toys and games, dolls, trucks, stuffed animals and books for children of all ages, Oxbow employees also volunteer to adopt "Angels" as identified by the YMCA to help fulfill their specific needs and wishes. Every year this program serves hundreds of families in South Montgomery County, Texas granting wishes and bringing smiles to faces.
